Lulupu DT Call

I made this for www.Lulupu.com's DT call. If you are a paper crafter in India and haven't heard about www.lulupu.com then you are seriously missing something.......it is a great place to shop for almost all international big brands in craft supplies.......do check it out....you can also participate in the DT call which ends on May 15th....the details can be found here.
This card is inspired by this card by Khushboo, who is DT member at Lulupu.
I've made it for my mum I do feel I have overdone this card a bit, I guess it could have done without a couple of elements....well never mind I hope my mum likes it (she is quite critical of my work!)
The chevron background is handmade, the tutorial can be found here.

I've rounded the corners of the card with this corner chomper available at lulupu.com, the chipboard alphas are colored with copics and covered with glossy accents also available at lulupu.com and so is the paper piercer used to pierce the edges of the card, the twine is from this pack. The flowers are made with giant rick rack (will share how to make these soon). The buttons and butterflies are from Pie Lane.

This month's challenge at the "For Love of Crafting" is being hosted by the extremely talented Anita.
Here are the details of the challenge:

Recipe Challenge

Use the following ingredients to craft your project.

1. Use a Bow-it can be any sort of bow with ribbon, twine or any material of your choice.

2. Use some stamping on your project. It can be any stamping type-either on your back ground or in corners etc. the choice is yours.

3. Use either a sentiment or a flower or both. The sentiment can be stamped or hand written but this is a seperate ingredient and does not coincide with the above ingredient.

Here's my take on the challenge, it features my favorite Hero Arts Large stencil flower cling stamp......it has been colored with copics.

I noticed later that the bow has toppled over in the photo.........n I gave away the card so can't take another picture..well never mind...

I made this a while back......made it on request for Khushboo and Jwalant's engagement..... It measures 5x5 inches and has 3 layers to put pictures and personal messages,

the engagement ring will be kept in the box in the center. It involved so much effort that I'm not sure if I'll attempt another one (might try smaller one with no layers)!

Super easy layered handmade flower tutorial

Hi, this is Juhi and I am going to show how to make these layered flowers.
This tutorial is also available here.
I get a lot of queries from non-regular crafters on how to make and embellish cards for their loved ones......so I decided to post a tutorial on how make handmade flowers using material which is easily available at home. These flowers can be made in less than 5 minutes and require no fancy craft tools or supplies!
Things required:
1. Thick handmade paper/cardstock ( I used a wedding invitation envelope).
2. Scissors
3. Glue
4. Stapler (optional)
5. Something for the flower center - buttons/half cut pearls/beads.....
6. Paint brush or a pen - this will be used to roll the flower petals

Roughly cut out 3 circles of different sizes (my biggest circle has a 2 inch diameter).....these circles don't have to be perfect (mine are freehand).....I have used the printed side of the wedding invite to add some color.

Give 6-7 equally spaced radial cuts on the circles. be careful not to cut till the center but slightly less than that. These will be the flower petals

Roll the petals around the end of a paint brush or pen.

Stack the rolled layers and staple in the center.

Make the flower center with a button/half cut beads or whatever you like and your flower is ready! Increase or decrease the number of layers to get bigger or smaller flowers.

I hope this was easy enough.....do lemmi know if it was not!

I am so happy with this card.......the entire card is made with old wedding invites (even the cardstock base).......my parents being college professors get invited to a lot of weddings.......whenever I visit them I bring back tons of wedding invites which I usually use to die-cut flowers, swirls etc.
As I don't have a die-cutting machine these days I decided to make my own blooms from the invites.......they were very easy to make (i kept the printed side up....love the effect!).

Pie Lane Stencils

I made this before my Bug broke (sob sob...). Have followed Tejals's Tut on using Pie Lane stencils with the cuttlebug and got amazing results....colored the embossed flowers with distress inks and covered them with rock candy distress stickles.

An extremely quick post before I call it a day........the card is inspired by Card Patterns Sketch #162......tried some stamping after a long time, loved coloring the flower......have made it in 3 layers.
Here's a closer look at the layers.....

the flower center is filled with Pie Lane chunky glitter...love the effect, have also used Pie Lane self adhesive rhinestones.

As some of would be aware I somehow broke my cuttlebug on Sunday :(......getting a new die cutting machine at a good price is not easy here in India.......so I will have to survive without die cutting for sometime I guess.......might be a good time to wipe the dust off my punches :P.....anyway here is something which I made a while back........love how well mauve and green go together!

I am delighted to be a part of the "For the Love of Crafting" DT....looking forward to a great experience working with some of the most creative ladies in India!
This month's Challenge is to use Spring Colors and Butterflies (more than one) on your project. I came up with this step card.....

Multi Page Card Tutorial

I get loads of queries about how I make my multi page cards, the reason this tutorial is so late is that I like to make photo tutorials (mainly because I have no clue how to make a video tutorial!) but could not figure out how to show this through pictures......I finally managed to make a video tutorial......it is not great but I hope you'll get what I'm trying to convey.......and I will surely make a better one next time....ok enough of my rambling....would love to know what you make of my tutorial.

A super quick post......made a card after a really really long time, thoroughly enjoyed myself. I've used my first PTI stamp and die set ( I know I am late in getting those!)......and do they stamp well or what (thanks Tejal for inspiring me to get some!)
Have used some Pie Lane self adhesive gem stones with the sentiment.

What I mean is I had to work with limited craft supplies to make this card........I am visiting my parents for a while and have taken only a few stamps, some white card stock and copic markers (I don't have too many) along with me......

We were visiting one of my dad's friends last week, they have two little girls and I took one of my cards for them......I had no clue that one card for two girls could create so much trouble, the younger one started sulking saying that she wants one for herself...........so I was left with no choice but to make one for her.

The blue gingham background is upcycled from packaging, the pink and off-white laces are from my mum's stash.

"101 Creative Card Sketches" ebook review

Whether you are a new or an experienced card maker we have used card sketches for inspiration at some point or the other. It would be great if one could have a lot of sketches at their disposal at any time. Whenever you are out of ideas you would just have to refer to the sketch database and use it as a starting point. The book “101Creative Card Sketches” by Gloria Pouch provides just that. It is a database of 101 card sketches, and perfect for those times when you are hit by the crafter’s block and do not know where to start.

Gloria starts off with explaining different elements that go into making a handmade card, like the card stock base, background, the focal image, embellishments etc. This information will prove extremely helpful to novice card makers. This section is followed by an explanation about how card sketches act as a starting point in card making. Subsequently she explains how the same sketch has multiple uses, it can not only be used to make cards but also things like gift tags, magnetic photo frames, scrapbook layouts, bookmarks etc. The next section is divided into 5 subsections, each of these subsections feature sketch layouts for a specific card size.

Horizontal card Sketches - features sketches for 5” x 7” sized cards.

Vertical Card Sketches – features sketches for 7” x 5” sized cards.

Square card Sketches – features sketches for 5” x 5” sized cards.

Long Horizontal and Vertical Card Sketches – features sketches for 3.75” x 8.5” sized cards.

Surprise Card Sketch – features one surprise sketch

The last section features a summary of all the sketches for quick reference.

The book also features 25 cards designed using the sketches from the book, together with step by step instructions to make the cards. Some designs show you how the same sketch can be used in 2 totally different ways. These card sketches give you great ideas on how to take a sketch and use it for different products and occasions.

Personally I would have liked it if there were more cards designs based on the sketches, preferably atleast one design for each card sketch, possibly even more. Nonetheless I would recommend this book to all card makers, as sometimes it is better to use your creativity and not be biased by other sketch interpretations. Love how this card turned out, was really quick and easy to make. Have distressed a regular white doily and stamped the sentiment on it. I finally figured out how to make a bow with multiple loops (guess I am late cause I see them on almost all cards everywhere, but I did manage it yay!).

Just a quick post to share a bright and happy thank you card I made recently, I have cased this card by Priya. The adorable boy is a cling stamp by Claudia from Claudia and Company, she does not make them anymore, glad I got it when she did! It has been stamped and paper pieced.

and oh yes the card also features my favorite Pie Lane button, just love how these buttons brighten up any project!
