This is what I made for CP sketch #25. I made this for my sister for her birthday which falls on 4th of August. I hope she does not check my blog before that :P.
The flowers have been made using scalloped circles. The tutorial to make these flowers can be found here (ofcourse mine is not even close to that :( ) Do check out Inspirational techniques and tutorials for many more fab tutorials.
I liked these flowers so much that I made 2 similar cards!!This is the CP sketch on which my cards are based. The cards by the DT at Card Patterns are a must see.......

I made these for 2 colleagues who are leaving my company today. I wanted to make quilled cards but they did not turn out as I wanted them to. The pictures have not come out great as I took them in poor light :(

Though I love the outdoors and love physically intensive activities like swimming and cycling (I even cycle to work!), I have never been the sporty kind, infact I don’t think I have ever played a sport......until last Saturday.......
There was a women’s soccer fest being organized at work and I thought about giving it a go and I am sure glad I did! Even tough we lost badly (4:0).......we had a great time......here’s our team, I’m the one with the glasses.....Here are both the teams in action...I do want to play regularly now......

I guess most of us have made rakhis when we were kids, this is just a recap. If you know any other method(s) of making a rakhi, I'd love to hear from you....do send in your rakhi pictures too!!
This is tutorial for making the center of a rakhi. This is my first tutorial so please be patient :P
1. Take a piece of cardboard of width slightly larger than the diameter of your rakhi. Suppose you want your rakhi to have a diameter of 5 cms, take a cardboard piece of width atleast 6 cms. Even if the rakhi turns out to be bigger than you want, you can always trim it to the size you want.
2. Take the thread (preferably silk thread) and wind is around the cardboard piece till you get a thick skein, something like this.3. Slide the skein out from the cardboard. Be careful not to entangle the thread while doing so.
4. Tie the skein tightly at the center.5. Cut out the loops of thread at either end.6. Hold the skein at the center using your thumb and index finger, or press it from the center using your index finger and a table for support. Keep it pressed for some time, till it stays in place. You can also press it under some heavy books.7. If you want your rakhi to be soft and fluffy you can brush it in outward strokes with an old toothbrush.
8. Trim the rakhi to the desired size. This is what mine looked like at the end....This can now be stuck on top of a thread and embellished as required.


I made this one using thicker thread, and I haven't trimmed it too......will use it as a flower somewhere...

The Hindu festival Raksha Bandhan or Rakhi is coming up on 5th August. Raksha Bandhan (the bond of protection in Hindi) celebrates the relationship between brothers and sisters. It is celebrated by tying a rakhi or holy thread by the sister on the wrist of her brother. The brother in turn offers gifts to his sister and vows to look after her. Raksha Bandhan was my favorite festival as a kid, Even though I don’t have any brothers I tied rakhi to my cousins, who in turn gave me gifts (usually cash, I loved collecting all the money I received, never spent a single paisa.......quite the opposite I have turned out now :P ).......Anyway now getting to this week’s CP sketch, well since Raksha Bandhan is coming up I decided to make a few cards for the occasion.......
Here is a closer look at the rakhi...The green cord with the flower like circle on top is the rakhi which is tied to the brother’s wrist....I made this from scratch. The cord was made by twisting together gold and green silken thread, folding it in half, twisting again and then tying the ends. I’ll post a tutorial on making the center portion of the rakhi soon (it can also be used as a flower). I have inked the edges of the layers.

My office timings have changed, I have to be in office by 8am, which means I have to sleep early to get up early. This leaves little time for card making :( ........so I had to make a very quick card for the CP sketch this week.
The picture has not come out great, the lighting was bad, I usually take pictures in daylight but this one was taken last night.I frayed the edges of the ric rac, the car is a die cut, I stuck buttons for the wheels, the “L” is from the set of chip-board alphabet that I have, the rest are punched alphabets.

Here’s my take on CP sketch #22. I got some lovely embossed sheets of handmade paper in white, blue and pink last weekend; I have used the white one here. White, Black and yellow color combo has been on my mind for quite some time now...
The black paper has a beautiful self pattern which is not clearly visible in the photo.
I made another card inspired from last week’s CP sketch. This has been made to order by a colleague of mine whose daughter wants to gift this to her grandpa (Dadu is a nickname for Dada which means paternal grandfather in Hindi) on his birthday. I also got foam sheets this weekend and I have used it to make the base of the layered flower. The layers are bound together with a flower shaped brad.

I went craft supplies shopping again this weekend!! I have this bad habit of stocking up on supplies which I think I will need at some point or the other.......and I usually do use whatever I buy.......but the problem is now I have no space left to keep all the stuff that I keep collecting!! I guess every crafter has this habit......
Well now back to my shopping, my friend Sonal (who does awesome glass painting, you can view some of her art work here) informed me about a craft supplies shop here in Bangalore, and I cant thank her enough, this place is an absolute haven for card making supplies in Bangalore, it has all kinds of handmade paper, designer paper, foam sheets, beads, flowers in all kinds of textures and colors and sizes, ribbons (even imported ones), sequins, pre-punched shapes, stickers, quilling supplies.......and everything at almost reasonable prices :).

Here is the list of things I got from there:
1. colored eyelets – 29/- for a small pack

3. moon shaped beads – 29/-

I am a bit late this week with Card Patterns sketch21. I had gone on a short vacation to Hong Kong last week and got back on early Monday morning and was busy at work since then. Well I had an awesome break, did a lot of sight seeing and shopping!! Will post pictures of the trip soon. Now I am all refreshed and raring to go......
I quilled the sail boat, (I hope it does look like one :P ) and outlined the edges using 3-D outliners. The “Happy Birthday” alphabets are punched.
